It is actually this point of the year once again for our once-a-year holiday in Menorca, it was on the plane to Menorca where I actually wrote this short story about staying in some apartments in Menorca and our own close friends vacationing in some new villas in Menorca just 100 metres away. A few of the passengers, especially the more mature people mostly, had dozed off already, jaws agape and a few droplets of spit occasionally. Children sat deathly still, possibly through anxiety about the aircraft, or even their own mothers who observed them like hawks.

One baby started off sobbing, and could be heard till his mother moved him into the bathroom at the back of the plane.

Time seemed to drag on, minutes feeling just like hrs, until all at once, the very airliner broke through the grey cover of haze and clouds. Now, the window that had produced this sort of bleakness, offered a new sublime view. Clear azure sky, resting on a field of cloud. Wisps of cloud, upset by the plane, sailed like lambs, bobbing down and up in the open field. Wind rustled the surface and the thick wool of the sheep. All this was swept away because a school of really brightly shaded birds swooped out from the ocean of clouds and dived back underneath, leaving plumes of cloud floating and gleaming in the azure.

A single bird leaped out from the clouds, and flew alongside the plane, its feathers damp and shiny. It glided riding on the jet’s current, before joining its family in the swirling puzzle below the atmosphere. In the distance, an additional plane glided majestically over the sea of clouds, glimmering waves into the sun, leaving behind trails of outstanding grey in the genuine white.

The plane touched down, and the passengers headed out of the aircraft, one at a time as a light grey drizzle poured down, upon darkish outfits, dark-colored umbrellas, of people heading off for their Menorca accommodation holidays this year.
